If you want to make a difference in the world and do your part to keep your carbon footprint as small as possible these 5 eco tips are going to help you do just that. Now, you may not be able to do them all but don’t worry, every little bit helps. If you can do even one of these things you will be helping the planet and yourself.
Here are some ideas you can use to live a greener lifestyle:
1) Consider alternative transportation
Bike or use public transit whenever you get the chance. Carpooling is another great idea that many businesses are doing these days. It cuts down the amount of pollution dramatically, you would be shocked.
2) Take care of your car and cut down on emissions
If you are going to drive, keep your tires inflated well and don’t speed. If you do these two simple things you will save not just the environment due to less emissions but you will save money too. You will use less fuel and goodness knows we could all do to save on gas. The prices are too high for me.
3) The 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
When you can reuse old packaging instead of buying new things. This actually saves more energy than recycling. The amount of packaging that comes with products these days is crazy so if you can reuse definitely do it. Think of the space the landfill would have if all that packaging didn’t make it that far. Get paper bags when you can but if you have to use plastic be sure to reuse them.
4) Compost kitchen scraps etc.
Approximately 30% of the trash that is thrown away is compostable. If you compost the leaves, grass, vegetable scraps and other miscellaneous food stuffs, you are saving energy and landfill space. You can use a regular old bin for composting or you can purchase special composters, they are pretty cool.
5) Conserve water
Don’t let faucets run. Never water your lawn at midday. Place a brick in old toilets. Take low flow short showers. Run the dishwasher only when it is full. Let grass grow longer. Plant native or drought-tolerant garden plants.
These 5 simple tips can make a big difference to the world, I know you’re skeptical, but it’s true. Share these earth friendly tips with your friends and get the whole gang going. By just doing one of these things you can set an example for others.

Yes, well said.
As a business we only use timber from renewable, ethical sources.
I think one of the best methods to find ways to be green is those that do not adversely affect one’s wallet or lifestyle.

I don’t know, I have tried alternative transportation before, but it never really works out the way I need it to. It’s so hard relying on the public transit (at least in Phoenix), and I work waaaaay too far to bike to work. I would love to ride my bike to work, but it’s just too far.

If everyone will follow these tips, we’ll be living in a better world.

It’s all so simple isn’t it? And yet some idiots around the world cannot understand the concept of throwing litter in the bin, reusing and recycling amongst other things. I saw a kid walking down the street drop their litter without a care in the world the other day – they got a shock when I picked it up and handed it to them expectantly!! Ha ha!

Yes! I love the 3 Rs. Yes, Reduce comes first because we could really do without all the mindless consumerism. Don’t buy anything! do without. or Reuse what you’ve got.

I usually follow these tips, and my parents who just moved in the country side are really happy with their simple, eco life. But generally I think it’s a question of education that has to start since we are little kids in order to make a habit out of these eco practices. I mean, throwing garbage in the garbage bin where it belongs is a rather simple problem of politeness, not really eco- awareness. I think it’s easier to tech kids how to be polite, than to fill their heads with ecological issues.

about transport by cars: not understanding those who are using jeeps through the city. I can see only one person into a big car, so pretentious

Well you know what stops everybody from obeying these rules are laziness and abundance. A rich person won’t care for his car petrol except fun and enjoyment. People living beside the sea find no need to save water.
Thanks

I totally agree with you on the common sense aspect. I have come across so many different things and thought, why the heck didn’t I realize that before?? A lot of the little but important things affect things we do as habit, without even really thinking about what we are doing or how we could do it better. They’re things we’ve always done a certain way and they slip through the cracks, you know?

Real easy for anyone to do. The only one that is almost impossible for me is to use alternative transport. I don’t think the bus driver would allow me to carry half a ton of equipment onto his bus somewhow.

Easy things to do to conserve water and reduce trash: 1. make a compost pile for all your organic kitchen scraps (NO cooked food). You can use the pile as a source of rich earth wonderful for plants.
2. If you have a 2-sink kitchen you can use one to conserve water by putting a plastic bowl that fits right in. Everytime you wash your hands or veggies or fruits or rinsing dishes you can turn to that side of the sink to and use that water to water plants!

Conserve water. All ideas in the article are important, but those related to water are in my opinion the most important. I was watching a documentary on television about the melting of glaciers in Europe and the lack of water for the future. Scary.

The most important thing to remember is that ecology and respect depends only on us, and our intelligence. Respect is key

I completely agree, we must always remember the Improta plants and nature!

#3 Is instilled in us as children but we choose to ignore all but recycle too often. In fact we should reduce, then reuse then recycle. It is just too easy to recycle and say you are having a positive environmental impact.
